The Applitech Universal SCADA Engine (USE) is built on industry-standard Modbus messaging and lets operators read from, and write to, up to 150 Modbus slave devices, each with independent communication parameters. It gives plants a no-hassle path to interrogate and control existing or new Modbus equipment from a single supervisory layer.
Overview
USE serves as a universal data concentrator between a SCADA host and a heterogeneous fleet of field devices. It exposes up to 5,000 16-bit registers for read or write traffic, communicates with slaves over any RS-232 or RS-485 multi-drop network, and presents the consolidated data to the SCADA host over Modbus TCP/IP on Ethernet.
Features and capabilities
- 01Polls up to 150 Modbus slave devices for read or write
- 02Stores up to 5,000 16-bit registers for slave data
- 03Talks to slaves over leased line, dial-up, radio, microwave, or RS-485
- 04Communicates with the SCADA host via Modbus TCP/IP over Ethernet
- 05Timed-cycle, scheduled, or operator-forced polling per address
- 06Unsolicited report-by-exception supported
- 07Global setup of common parameters, with per-address overrides
- 08Mixed Modbus ASCII and RTU, baud rates from 50 to 19,200
Polling and configuration
- 01Continuous poll, intervals from 1 second to 18 hours, or time-scheduled
- 02Force poll, enable, or disable any address on demand
- 03All enabled writes execute before that address is read
- 04Configurable response timeout, start delay, end delay, retry limit
- 05Read codes 3x and 4x, write code 4x (Modbus function 16)
- 06Fault codes and poll status per address for fast diagnostics
Typical applications
- 01Potable water distribution systems
- 02Water and wastewater pumping stations
- 03Gas and oil pipeline distribution
- 04Electrical utility substations
- 05Industrial and commercial electrical metering and billing
- 06Remote customer inventory monitoring for supply management
Why USE
USE protects existing field investments. There is no rip-and-replace, no proprietary lock-in, and no per-device driver fees. Mixed-vendor Modbus deployments that previously required custom integration drop into a single configuration, with the SCADA host seeing one consistent Ethernet endpoint.
