Applitech worked with POMA-OTIS Transportation Systems to install and commission Automated People Movers (APMs) at major US transit and airport sites. The work covered the safety-critical software for Automatic Train Operation (ATO) and Automatic Train Protection (ATP), the SCADA layer, and the field integration with stations and guideway.
Overview
Applitech provided the software programming for ATO and ATP, coordinated with local trades and contractors for installation and start-up, and built a GE Fanuc SCADA system to control, monitor, and record APM operation while raising critical alarms. The full train operation was automated: start and stop, train speeds, and station door operation.

Automatic Train Operation (ATO)

- 02Configurable ramp rates with a jerk factor for passenger comfort
- 03On-board and platform passenger announcements at every stop
- 04Emergency response routing in conjunction with ATP
- 05Demand mode for off-peak operation
Central control
All train movement is monitored from a central control room. The SCADA system shows status and movement of every train, and a central operator console lets the control room intervene if ATO or ATP operating failures occur.
